Is there beaches in Panama City or do you have to travel out of the city? How far is the Panama Canal from the city?

Hi. I live in Panama, and I can assure you that there are no beaches in the greater metropolitan area of Panama City. Unfortunately the Bay of Panama is contaminated by sewage, so you have to go outside Panama City to get a clean beach.

The good beaches closest to the city are:
Punta Chame
Gorgona
Coronado
Punta Barco
El Palmar
San Carlos

Any of those beaches are good, and they are about 50 miles from the city, so it's about 1 hour by car.

The Panama Canal is practically close to Panama City. Actual distances from the business district of Panama City to the visitors center are around 20 to 25 miles. The problem is traffic, that will make the 25 mile trip last a goo 45 minutes to 1 hour.
