English actors are popular over here. Sean Connery never plays the bad guy, likewise with Hugh Grant. Miachel Caine has played all kinds of roles, as has Jeremy Irons. I don't think Americans see the British as bad guys at all (except for the ultra Irish Nationalists, of whom there aren't very many). I like the English a lot, and had a great time in Britain.

The Americans have an inferiority complex about the British accent. It's the voice of their old master and enemy. Yanks think they're not as sophisticated as the Brits, when it's all in their heads really.

I´m south American, and I love the English accent. I even married an English man, so I can listen to it all the time, lol. (I really love him!). Maybe the north Americans are "jealous"????

I think its cool that English men get portrayed as baddies, it suits them. I'm English by the way! But English women always get portrayed as hippies or geeks, not fair!!

i think its because an English actor can often act and this is needed to keep the story going when all the leads have is a pretty face they need a strong actor that can really act to keep it all together ,,,and there usually English because you need to understand what there saying and they speak better .

I think it is more because the villian is usually a rich guy with a bunch of goons under him, and Brits are associated with being posh and classy.
