Boy! These people are no help!
At the end of the 1st day, Tom has done 1/2 half the job, Sam has done 1/4 of the job, and Lisa has done 1/6.
1/2+1/4+1/6=6/12+3/12+2/12=11/12.
So, there is 1/12 of the job left for the second day. The team can accomplish 11/12 in a day, so it will on;y take them 1/11th of the second day to finish.
So, the answer is 1 1/11ths days, or about 1.09 days.

If Tom can do it by himself in 2 days. Then the answer would be <2 days.
In one day Tom was able to get it 1/2 done, Sam 1/4 done and Lisa 1/6 done, or 6/12 + 3/12 and 2/12 = 11/12 done for day one.
Altogether it takes slightly more than one day and less than 2 days.

Sam can do a job in 4 days, then a day he can do 1/4 of a job.
Lisa can do it in 6 days, then a day she can do 1/6 of a job.
Tom can do it in 2 days, then a day he can do 1/2 of a job.
If they work together, a day they can finish 1/4+1/6+1/2 = 11/12 of a job. So to finish one job, it takes them 1 / (11/12) = 12/11 days or more than a day.

Everyone who told you to average this problem is very very wrong. If one person can do the job in 2 days then there is no reason why three people working on it should take 3 days. Common sense. You need to set it up as an equation:
work=rate x time
Work equals 1 because that is the number of jobs that need to be completed. Rate is how long it takes each individual to do something. Sam's rate would be (4/1) because it takes him 4 days to complete one job. You can work it out from here.

a little more than a day cuz tom can do 1/2 of it in a day lisa can do 1/6 of it in a day and 1/4 of it in a day so add those up and they finish 11/12 of the job in a day so one day and 1/12 days.
i cant believe the rest of u people r that bad at math its sad.

It's averages..... add the days (that each take to do the job) together and divide by 3 (# of people) . 4+6+2=12 12 divided by 3=4 4 days.

I dont know the answer, but just to let you know, all these people saying add the days up and divide by three are wrong. Think about it. If Tom could do it by himself in 2 days, then how would adding two more people make the job longer?
