We don't always see that a person has narcissist behavior until it is too late, OR most of us would NOT have gotten involved with them to begin with. Most people come from a home with some sort of dysfunctionality & until we heal from our childhood pain, we are doomed to repeating the same destructive choice patterns of our childhood upbringing! It takes time & patience from well trained counselors to learn how to live a life that is free from making poor choices in regards to human relationships. Once a person learns how to spot & recognize the signs of a person who is unhealthy for them, then it becomes easier to steer yourself AWAY from a troublesome type of person & how to recognize a healthier type! Unfortunately, we have become a society of drive-up service & when we don't want to take the time to get out of our cars, then we miss a lot of what is going on around us. This is one reason why the internet has so many people who are being exploited by others. If you don't like the way someone has treated you & you cannot resolve it in a manner that suits all the parties involved, then it is just best to cut off all ties with the troublesome party until you can sort things out in your own mind. If they won't leave YOU alone, then you MAY need to resort to filing stalking charges on them with your local law enforcement agency. Some of these people are a danger to themselves & having them arrested sometimes is the only way to get through to them that YOU MEAN BUSINESS & YOU WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO RULE OVER YOUR LIFE. Occasionally, you have to move far away & get an unlisted telephone number. Eventually, you learn to stay away from these types!

A narcissist needs people who love them. If you are a loving and giving person you're a magnet for narcissists. You can sever ties by not playing their game. Some will leave you because you're "too selfish", "unloving", "self-centered", but often they will try to "fix you" because they want you to be the person they first met, but on the whole you have to walk away. Being with a narcissist is a very degrading experience because they have to make you feel inadequate and insecure to keep you under control. Recognizing the personality and refusing to get involved with them is the best way to keep your sanity and self-esteem.

Narcissists have a low opinion of themselves and try to mask it by being arrogant and egotistical. They particularly attract people who have little self worth/esteem who would actually put up with them. A woman might initially see this as confidence, but they are just blind. A strong person wouldn't deal with a narcissists bull ****. You sever ties by kicking them to the curb. No one deserves to have close company with one of these people. If a person doesn't love themsleves, they won't be able to love anybody else.

That's a funny question, because narcissists are only interested in themselves, not other people. They would only be interested in someone else for that person's ability to enhance the narcissist's view of themselves.

from a narcissist. we don't know. we just look for someone to fit like everyone else does. enablers happen to fit the mark. to sever ties, you'll have to toughen up to the point that you can say that you just can't watch them cause their own demise. hope it helps.

I think people in general are narcissists. Some just show it more than others. Probably people who are "soft", the kind that just "go with the flow" are the ones that get used. In other words, probably low self esteem people are their targets.

Usually they have a low self-esteem and require a lot of direction.
Narcissists are great at being directive.

Severing ties is easy...
"I need time to grow and be myself and be strong"
or especially -

"This isn't working out; you're too good for me."
what's he going to say ?? "Nooo, honey...I'm a jerk....really."

or...find a bigger badder Narcissist..

Good luck

Sometimes narcissists will target people just because of their race or gender or something lame like that.

Narcissists are damned good actors and actresses. They should all be in Hollywood.

They usually don't expose themselves until married.
