This is only possible if you have your BlueTooth turned on (even if it's in invisible mode).
Otherwise.. Cellular technology has an encryption that can NOT be hacked into by anyone. There are special military devices to do that and are only available to the US and Isrealean Military (who discovered it).
Peace.

Yes, it is absolutely possible for hackers to get into your cell phone and mess with you. To prevent this, buy some firewall software. That is protect you from those menacing hackers.

there are a few options, but since you don't give details i'll just list them all.
bluetooth because of it's popularity offers up alot of chances for 'pranks', if someone manages to 'pair' their phone with your phone using bluetooth without your knowing then your phone will automatically accept files/messages/etc from their phone. there are also bluetooth vulnerabilities which can be used maliciously, for example people can forward calls through your phone using a bluetooth exploit, which will appear on YOUR phonebill. also, contacts, messages, pictures and so on can be stolen using this same bug. bear in mind that for bluetooth exploits they have to be within 10 metres of where you are.
if you download programs for your phone from the internet, it's not impossible to get a virus on your mobile.
---side note---
contrary to popular belief, paris hiltons phone was not actually hacked as many people think. (for hotmodelanti).
at the time she owned a 'sidekick' internet connected phone, which rather than storing pictures, phone numbers, notes etcon the phone itself lets you upload them to a server on the internet.
it was one of t-mobile's servers on the internet which was hacked and eventually paris hilton's files were found on this server. but given that her password reset question was "what's the name of my favourite pet" it didn't take long for the guy to work it out considering she has possibly the most famous dog in the world, 'tinkerbell'.
she is blonde after all.
---side note---
anyhow, i would recommend reading your phone's manual and restore your phone to factory settings to undo any naughtiness someone may have done.
