then not use the phone to make calls? Isn't that why you would put ringtones in a phone? (To hear it ring?)The person downloaded a BUTT load of ringtones.Why????

Maybe because they used all the credit by downloading ringtones

Well, first off, making calls does not make the phone ring - receiving them does.

Anyway, depending on how they downloaded them, the ringtones could cost anywhere from $.99 - $2.99 US, so it is a way of racking up a huge bill.

The thief could be within your earshot. Hence an attempt on using different ring-tones. So when an incoming call comes you cannot recognize your familiar ring-tones. He doesn't dare to ring up from your vicinity, since you will recognize your handset and catch him from the IMEI number by entering *#06#, even though he has changed the SIM card. Hence, when he makes calls, your number does not show on the recipient's handset. Get the SIM and IMEI blocked. Lodge complaint with the local police station and service provider, so that anything untoward done using that phone, will NOT involve you. (Your bill for the handset will contain the IMEI number.)
