I think the Concept is good. But do I think its working??? maybe not so much. But I also think the burden shouldn't only be on the school system. I think parents should be held just as responsible as the schools. If parents arent' going to drive home the idea that their education is something that has to be worked hard for, and its necessary for existence then "no child left behind" is pointless.

After looking at the TIMS study which shows that American students can't compete with other developed countries, I believe that we have some catching up to do. I'm not certain that the No Child Left Behind program is going to close the gap.
What I like about the program is that the national NAEP test associated with the program provides information to the states as to where each state stands in relationship to other states. States want their taxpayers to be happy so they tend to label students proficient when they are not. The NAEP test lists more honest proficiency numbers for each state.

The concept is good....but it is going to take a lot more than just saying it. Schools are going to need to money and resources to get the job done but most of all many PARENTS are going to have to step and and take part in what is going on in their kids lives. And that is getting harder and harder....prices for everything are going up and not wages forcing parents to work more and rely on the others for help. I think it is a battle that we can never win....in todays world parents can't always be there all the time and the schools don't have the staffing, classroom space, or money to make the system work. We can't win.

The concept is great but the funding is lacking. Money doesn't solve all the problems though. I think every child should be exposed to learning and knowledge but some of the little buggers just refuse to work.. the old saying "you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink" is true for some kids.

no. it doesn't benefit the child, parent or the teacher. it also takes away from other children that ARE truely trying. example: lets say during the standardized testing days that a child is absent...they don't get to make that test up. also they're given a 0 and that 0 goes into the average of the class body populace.

In theory it works but in life it doesnt. prime example my 4 year old is on a waiting list for pre k he turns five in dec. so pretty much he 's waiting not to be left behind and to succeed ten people have to move or withdraw so he and the nine others before him can begin to learn. Not to mention it is harder than ever to enroll your kids in school my mom didn't have to prove she had a working telephone at all times or show proof of address via a bill in her name all she needed was my birth certificate and shots record and she coulda give them any address in the county. Not so anymore.

I believe in it's existance.
However, I know of no teachers who like it. It takes up way too much of their time to teach exactly what they want you to know instead of using the teacher's discretion. It has some good points to it, but overall it is a bad program, and is underfunded.
