Those books might be THE most brilliant books I've ever read. There is so much metaphorical stuff going on in those books, that even now years after I first read them I am always finding things that sort of fit in in a really weird, cool way. I practically never read fantasy, but I loved all three.
PS: Did you almost die at the end of the Subtle Knife- That clifhanger ending!! I had to wait probably eight months before the Amber Spyglass came out... the wait was awful!

I think Phillip Pullman is a brilliant author - his books appeal to males, females, young, and not so young. I read everything he writes. His website is interesting too!

his dark materials deserves the publicity of harry potter. Its not fair that such a good book gets left in the dark. I mean there is wonderfull unforgetaable moments in HDm where as you forget HP instantly.

Absolutely brilliant.
I was completely hooked right up to the end....I remember sitting up and turning to my husband and said..."God has just been pushed off a cliff in a wheelchair"!!!
Worth a second, third, fourth read.
