I"m originally from Connecticut, the Nutmeg State. Strangely enough, I don't even know what nutmeg looks like!
They also call themselves the Constitution State (used to be on the liscense plates) because of the Connecticut compromise to the Constitution - that we would have both a senate and a house (if I remember correctly).

The Bluegrass state - Kentucky. We have a new slogan - Unbridled Spirit. Thank goodness. For a year or two we had, "It's that friendly" with a sunrise/sunset (who knows?) with a goofy smile. I get a personalized plate, so I didn't have the smile, but we did have some very creative people that made changes to their plates. It was universally disliked. It's not that we're unfriendly, but there was just something about that hokey sun.
