May sound nasty but the important thing is to get all the mucous out and keep it from reforming. Take a good 12-hr allergy pill to stop the runny nose at night and for the rest of the time drink a ton of liquid and keep spitting out any phlegm that forms. If it collects in your chest take an expectorant. If it sets in your chest, then it is infected and you should see a doctor. But these first steps may help you avoid that and recover quicker.

Nothing cures a cold but time -- getting adequate rest helps, too. However, the symptoms can be easily alleviated.
For the cough, try that ginger-honey-lime drink. Ginger is great for your throat and honey is a natural antibiotic. Can't hurt.
For the congestion, cut an onion. Pheeeeeewwww, but it really works. Drink or eat some french onion soup, if you like that. Otherwise, slice an onion and stay near it. Put a few slices on a plate, keep the rest in a plastic bag. When the first few start to dry out, get some fresh ones from the bag. It stinks, but it really and truly does work. It is also what they often use when tiny newborn babies (too young to have chemical medicines) get congested and can't nurse. Yes, it works for big folks, too.

If it is a severe nasal congestion lasting from past several days then it is not a common cold and you should get it checked by some expert Doctor.
However in recent cold best thing is to take hot water and gargle twice a day. Use of almonds and black pepper gives relief.

No known cures, but the Pill Book Guide to Natural Medicines discusses and recommends the following: Andrographis paniculata, Cat's Claw, Echinacea, Elderberry, Esberitox (highly rated), Licorice herb, Peppermint, Olive Leaf, Sinupret (highly rated), vitamin C, and zinc. I have personally found Cold-Eeze lozenges very good. Afrin nasal spray helps congestion.

Not a home remedy. But at the health food store, you'll find a product by Moducare called Sterinol. It is a plant sterins suppliment that balances the bodies immune system. If you take it daily, you'll never get a cold, or the flu, never have a cold sore, and it has actually put AIDS patients in remmission. Good Stuff!
Costs about $1 a day to take.

Nothing can CURE a cold. To relieve your congestion, fill the bathroom sink with hot hot water, drape a towel over your head to hold the steam around your face, lean over the sink and breathe in the steam. If you hae some Vicks, put a spoonful into the sink with the hot water.
A cup of hot tea with honey in it will help your cough.

There are many home remedies that I've tried...but here's one easy one.
Mix in a cup like 2 tablespoons of honey with one lime or lemon juice and drink it 3times/day.
This is natural remedy, so it might take longer to get rid of cold. But listen, there's another natural supplement that you can take and if you take it on a regular basis, it will keep your immune system healthy and it will be harder for you to get sick. It's a juice made from mangosteen fruit. Email me and I can give you more information. It's a great tasting juice and it will even put money in your checking account.

Follow the best suggestions then prevent the next cold. Since switching to the number one rated vitamin/mineral combo in America, I've not had a cold while others in my office have suffered. Prevention through good nutritional supplementation. Go to www.gesundheit.usana.com to read and order.

This won't cure it, but it may help you. Grate some ginger root, put it in a pot with water, bring to a boil, let it simmer, add some fresh squeezed lime juice and honey to taste. Strain into a mug.
The peppery-ness of the ginger should help clear you up, the lime gives you Vit C and the honey will soothe your throat.
Get as much sleep as you can too!
Good Luck!
