I have heard them say that the illegal immigrants strain the economy because they don't have insurance and alot of them brought women that are pregnant or older and need lots of medical care.I think Houston has done a wonderful job w/ the Katrina ppeople. But as always you'll have those that always want something for nothing and get it.They will never appreciate it.They got all the same freebies ie:rent, food stamps,sect.8 housing, medical care and so on in N.O. and still ruined their homes and will continue to deal drugs, kill each other and rob people because they get away with it.I do think(and Hope) that there are some good people who left N.O.and went to Houston But the # of bad far out weigh the good.

There are several major factors straining the economy of the entire nation. All those homes and businesses destroyed by Katrina result in how many insurance claims and how many mortgages going unpaid. Tens of thousands at least.
Then, as you mentioned, there are the illegal immigrants sending 100s of millions back to families in Mexico. That is the second largest factor in Mexico's GNP. All that money would be spent here by American workers. They are also holding down the wage rate by working for a fraction of what American workers need to have a subsistence living.
There's also the exporting of manufacturing jobs to 3rd world countries where the workers are thrilled to earn $200-400/month.
And finally, there's the uncontrolled greed of the energy companies causing the worst inflation in history.
The politicians will all keep their heads in the sand until millions of American workers are bankrupt.
Thanks for the great question and giving me the chance to express myself on what I consider a greater threat to the US than terrorists.

Yes, but the illegal immigrants don't get all the same benefits as the victims, who need higher paying jobs, and expect a different standard of living!

the illegal Mexicans here in Texas work for their money and pay for their housing...the blacks from new Orleans don't...after the hurricane, when FEMA gave them all that money to get 'back on their feet' they were out renting limos and going to clubs buying season tickets to sporting events ....one guy even funded his sex change....now they are living off of federal welfare just like they were in new Orleans....killin and stealin....

How about the rebuild Iraq fund? How about the Make GWB rich fund? I saw his speech today, he blames the private sector for not helping do what the government refuses to do--take care of Americans in need.
