Yes, I think most marriage counselors/psychologists will tell you that our culture generates a concept of love relationships that is WAY off from reality. We are all too eager to believe what we want to believe instead of what's really true. So blame Walt Disney Co. for the divorce rate!

Definitely, because everyone goes into a relationship with the whole idealistic bs that they will find that "one" special someone, get married, and live happily ever after. However, once the honeymoon is over, the reality and responsibility of a relationship rears its ugly little head and unfortunately many aren't prepared for the actual committment and dedication that being in relationship brings. Perhaps it is because of these unrealistic expectations, that there is such a high rate of divorce...just a thought...

You are right life isnt a tv show, movie, love song, these things can be very fictional and give us really high expectations as to what our lives should be like. I think the world would be a better place if everyone realized this and took a good look at reality rather than fantasy.

Yes. I think all of those things can play a part in our expectations in a relationship. I think it okay to watch/read/ and listen to romantic things but the most important that you and your partner is going to have to do is communicate. It is hard work to make a relationship work, the movies, books, and songs usually dont give step by step manuals to make relationships work. So, it is important to keep expections realistic and to communicate them with your partner.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! We expect so much and then find out it not what we thought it would be. That why divorce is on the rise and noone can be committed.Don't get me wrong they made be that special someone but it will be rare. What we need to do is learn from it and if you have that soul mate, both partner need to sit down together and discuss how you can keep the spice in the relationship. Hear me,not one,but both and we have to be realistic to.

Yes! Movie men are written by women to fulfill all our fantasies. Few people would go see movies (or read the books or listen to the songs) if they just described normal life for an average couple.

human beings by using nature look for something to fill the void that basically God can fill. no person can love us like God can, inspite of the undeniable fact that it nonetheless does not end somebody from looking. as quickly as we enable God to be a ingredient of our lives our desires substitute. He supplies us new desires and the void will become a subject of the previous. Matthew 6:33 (modern English version) yet better than the rest, positioned God's artwork first and do what he needs. Then the different issues would be yours besides. Psalm 37:4 (New King James version) delight your self additionally interior the LORD, And He shall provide you the desires of your heart

Spot on deary. It's the fairy tails that are dreamed up and filled into our heads. Kinda like when men watch or look at too much porn. It gives them an unrealistic view of normal women.

It can if you take it too far. But for me it makes me realise that I deserve something special from a relationship and after 12 years of dating i've found him because I always refused to settle for anything less.

Almost everything in movies/novels/songs is unrealistic in love, relationships, happiness, beauty (no one looks that hot without makeup and airbrushing and lighting!), etc. We using those mediums to compare ourselves.
