I loved reading Ludlum, Sheldon, Grisham and Archer. Wodehouse of course being the all time makes-me-smile favourite. I have read a bit of Steel and Agatha Christie but mushy mushy romance or murder mysteries is not my scene. Can you please suggest a good author who I can take to, for this season ?

Salman Rushdie, everything he's ever written is unbelievably good. Try fury to start off, its one of his most recent books and is very fast paced

Others:
Paul Auster
Jonathan Lethem
Julian Barnes

These people are all a little more literature-ish than the folks you named but they are all excellent can't put the book down style fiction writers.

I have also read the Mists of Avalon and I loved it too! If you liked it then I would suggest the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini. He only has two of the series out right now but the other one is set to come out in '08. The books are Eragon and Eldest. A movie has been made of Eragon and is set to premiere in theaters December 16th. I loved this series and own both of them. They do have plots that are a little complicated and at times I had to re-read some of the chapters so I could completely understand what was being planned. These are really good books and were not slow or too hard and are great page turners. I would suggest these to anyone who loves a good fantasy. Hope you find a book that works for you.

Connie Willis, To Say Nothing of the Dog (I haven't read her other books).

Terry Pratchett. If you're a fan of Wodehouse, you'll enjoy his later books: Going Postal, The Night Watch, Thud, The Truth.

Clive Cussler and Jack Higgins are good for adventure stories.

Try:
Tom Clancy - Jack Ryan series novels

Clive Cussler - the author behind "Sahara" & "Raise the Titanic" - the books are much better & entertaining than the movies

Michael Crichton or Dan Brown. Brown has other books besides DaVinci Code. I suggest you check them out, he's very fast paced, especially "Digital Fortress".

Dean Koontz. Just beware--he uses an over-abundant amount of similes/metaphors.
