Many would say IQ, which can be a good indicator. But I think it can go beyond that.
A genius is a person with distinguished mental abilities. This can manifest either as a foremost intellect, or as an outstanding creative talent. You wouldn't nessarily need a high IQ to be a genius in one particular area. The term also applies to one who is a "polymath", or someone skilled in many areas.
The term specifically applies to mental rather than athletic skills, although it is also colloquially used to denote the possession of a superior talent in any field; e.g., Pelé may be said to have a genius for soccer, Tiger Woods is a genius for Golf, or Winston Churchill for statesmanship.

Im not sure what classifies a person as genius - as each and every individual has qualities and knowledge of their own - who is to say what or who is a genius.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Achievement. It takes much more than IQ - for example, creativity, focus, hard work AND public acknowledgment.
