As you know, the past tense for the verb "read" is written in the same way, but is spelled differently. You must get the tense by reading the sentence in an article, or you need an adverb to recognize the tense (in 1st & 2nd person); otherwise there's no way to recognize the tense; but in the 3rd person you can simply find it out, if it's present, then it is "readS" but in the past tense it is "read".

Past and present tense are the same for the word read. Pronunciation is different but spelling is the same.

The past tense of the verb 'to read' is 'read', I'm not sure what you're asking, though.
