I'm sure I'm not the only one who has caught on. Ortiz's "health problems" lately are related to the fact that he has been overloading on steroids. On pace to hit 60 home runs when he was nothing more than a platoon player in Minnesota? His home run total has gone up an average of ten per year over the last 4 years. People say he is fat, but there is a lot of muscle under that fat. I hope he drops the juice and plays naturally.....if he does then he will be the same mediocre player that he always was and always should be. He should be taking notes on how to be a superstar naturally.....look at Derek Jeter, A-Rod, and Robinson Cano. Go Yankees!

I agree.....Giambi is definitely a juicer....it's just that Yankees (Sheffield, Giambi, former Yankee Jason Grimsley, Matt Lawton (when he was a Yankee for a few months) get caught....but what about the Red Sox? I read ESPN The Magazine's interview with ex-Sox Paxton Crawford....he and several other players on the team were heavy juicers just a few years back when he was there. Manny is pretty jacked....I know there are people there that are pretty guilty, but they never get caught. George Mitchell is doing the investigation and he's a minority owner of the Red Sox, so it won't get aired out anytime soon. It's like Canseco (I'm not a Canseco fan) said, baseball is like the mafia. They target some people, will throw some people to the wolves, and completely dislike others. And they turn their heads the other way to certain things going on....look at the home run race of 98. It was obvious what fueled that.

By the way.....Ortiz has been having heart trouble......he said it was caused by stress. However, he also mentioned that he was feeling very fatigued and dehydrated. Fatigue is a symptom of steroid/hgh use (do a search....it's called "lethargy"). Dehydration has been noted as a side effect of steroid/hgh. And of course, the worst symptom of steroid/hgh use is heart disease. Hmmmm....let's do the math here. If you can add 1 and 1 to get 2....then you should be able to see what is going on here.

You are out of your mind if you honestly think David Ortiz is on steroids. He has passed nearly every test he has been given.

Regardless, you are insane if you think David Ortiz is on something...that is the problem with society...because of what Bonds is being accused of (and is probably guilty of), everyone automatically thinks that if you hit 50 HR's, you must be on something.

I am a Yankees fan, and I am not defending Ortiz...but I am 150% positive he is not on the juice.

I agree this latest incident is more than suspicious, Ortiz really came out of nowhere and has inflated his numbers way too much too fast the last couple of years.

I also believe however he is not the only user out there, it's a plague all over MLB (and the NFL too). Unfortunately I have to add to this I think that a lot of the latin players are juiced. If you go visit the Dominican Republic, or the Central American countries most of these stars come from, the average man there is not as big as the monster we see in MLB. Here are some of the dudes that come to mind: David Ortiz, Ivan Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Albert Pujols, Sammy Sosa, Miguel Tejada, Juan Gonzalez, etc, etc. Of course latin players are not alone, this is all over MLB and as someone else pointed it's sad the way MLB operates sort of mafia style and depicts only against a few (why no one has mentioned any pitchers so far??!!). If there's a good time to clean the house it's right now with all the young talent that has blossomed this year. This needs to stop, these are the dudes our youth looks up to, steroids sooner or later will destroy your body and in today's competitive society you will find too many young kids will become new users, very sad.

So... David Ortiz is on pace to hit 60 home runs in 2006, but just a few years ago, he was an another team and wasn't so great. Now he has a medical condition that he claims is because of stress, but is also a reported symptom of steroid abuse.

Let's see what happens when you replace David Ortiz in that paragraph with Roger Maris, and 2006 with 1961.

"Roger Maris is on pace to hit 60 home runs in 1961, but just a few years ago, he was an another team and wasn't so great. Now he has a medical condition that he claims is because of stress, but is also a reported symptom of steroid abuse."

Is there anything untrue about that paragraph? Maris WAS on a pace to hit 60 home runs in 1961 (as we know, he finished with 61). Before 1960, he had been with the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals, and had averaged 19 homers and 68 RBI a season to go along with a .249 average. During the 1961 season, he lost his hair, which he claimed was due to stress. Hair loss is a symptom of steroid abuse.

Interestingly enough, after the 1961 season, Maris never hit more than 33 home runs again. Perhaps he dropped the juice and became the same mediocre player he always was and always should have been.

Come on man. I am the first to agree when someone in question deserves to be in question, but Ortiz has 47 home runs this year. How come every other past steriod user his numbers went down, but Ortiz is having a fine year, even with these so called injuries you are talking about.

Well I think steroids makes the heart work very fast, but the fact he's also a big man. I'm overweight and I get SO tired when I work out. So 50-50. ESPN has not said anything about steriods

Players dont go heavy on steroids during the middle of the SEASON as those "side effects" are immediate I dont see how this makes sense. Im sick of seeing the power hitters being slandered all the time. Why doesn't the press go after the REAL users (relief pitchers)?

Finally somebody other than me says this.

One of the most dominant side effects of using HGH is listed as 'heart damage' and Ortiz suddenly comes down with a heart murmer?

That's as suspicious as Jason Giambi's pituitary gland tumor a couple of years ago.

Plus Ortiz's trainer got caught smuggling steroids across the US/Canada border for another client (Juan Gonzales) a few years ago.

I agree with your Ortiz take.
What about Roger Clemens? He looked like he was at the end of his career, and all of a sudden he got better as he got older. Also has "roid rage" at times. Why hasn't he been questioned?

Don't be too proud, though, Yankee fan...your boy Jason Giambi can juice up with the best of 'em!

I'm not a Yankee or Red Sox fans...but I still think the Yankee's SUCK. They try to have the best team money can buy, but they still can't win ****. How many years has it been since they won? Too bad these guys are more interested in cheating than playing fair and square. Too bad there aren't more guys like Ripken and Puckett around these days.
