Selling candy bars. Going door to door when football games are on is a great way to sell the candy bars as the guys will always buy them while watching the games. You can also carry around a bag of them at school and other students will buy them from you. Candy bars do well because you already have them in hand, so people don't have to pay for them ahead of time and wait for the order to be delivered.
Many restaurants have fundraisers. You make fliers telling people when to eat at the restraint and hand them out. When people eat there, they say that they are supporting your class, and the restaurant donates part of their profits. Some of the places I know of that do this are Round Table Pizza, Baja Fresh and Souplantation. I think that this truly the easiest fundraiser you can do.
Here are some more good fundraisers: selling entertainment books. (I think that their website is www.entertainmentbooks.com,) and silent auctions. I have also seen the cookie dough one do well. Tupperware also has fundraising. There is a special catalog with items only sold for fundraising and you get 45% of the profits. You also get 20% from the regular catalog and some Tupperware Consultants will donate their profits as well. Go to www.tupperware.com for more information. One more that does well: ask a store or shopping if you can set up tables in front of the store in December and provide gift wrapping. You can charge a set fee or different fees per size of package. (I know that my daughter and her friends really enjoyed doing this one. Holding Spaighetti Dinners or Pancake Breakfasts work well too. You and your friends would cook and serve the food.

Well everyone has given you great ideas. Your right, Bakes sales and car washes will only get you so much. How about a benefit dinner? You can organize a dinner at the school have a raffle. Contact your local shops and have the donate gift prizes, ask parents and teachers to donate prizes as well. You can put on a show, talk about the trip let everyone know how much it means to the students and so on. This should help you raise even more money. Also, you everyone pays per plate, lets say about $20 and let everyone know that it is going to go towards your fundraiser.
Have fun with this and brainstorm ideas for your show!
Good Luck and have fun in Utah!

Car washes are always good - get some attractive people out there holding signs, not wearing a lot...
Also, put up money jars in local stores (if they will allow you).
Try to get donations for an auction.
Run a sports tournament of some sort - softball, volleyball, etc. Charge the teams entry but give out nice trophies and sell food!

Special events seem to work really well, especially if you have a good publicity plan and can get donors to help with some of the expenses.
Here are a few possibilities:
* Host an afternoon park party for kids, with games, refreshments, and prizes. Charge admission.
* Have a fashion show. Ask boutiques and shops to participate. Set up the runway and charge admission.
* Invite local restaurants to participate in a food festival. Have them rent booths from you. (They'll get paid for their food and they'll get free publicity.) Charge admission.

Try selling the entertainment book or sally foster giftwrap. I've seen groups raise thousands by selling them. Both are really good right now since you have the holidays coming up (wrapping gifts & saving $$ on shopping).
You could even use the Entertainment Book coupons while you are on your trip (you'd have to get one for Utah though).
Good luck!

week long bake sales always worked for my school. What you could also do is sell t-shirts with like your schools name on it or something that always works too. You could also go to a restaurant in your area and ask them to host a fundraiser night (or two nights whatever works) for your school. Most restaurants that did that for my school usually asked for 15-20% of the profit that you will make.

If you are over 18 and have a lot of friends who are over 18, you can get them to sign up for credit cards.
I have worked with a business that pays generously for credit card applications. I have made over $600 in 5-6 hours.
If you have a large group, it's even better.
