I believe you should live life to its fullest. So in once sense you should enjoy and experience all that life has to offer, while you can. But if you are talking about hurting others, doing whatever it takes at others' expense, or 'dying with the most toys' - you will realize one day, that it was the entirely wrong way to go. You will quite likely suffer the consequences of hurtful actions. What do you think the purpose of life is? I believe it is to use your special talents in creative ways that not only allow you and yours to prosper but benefit and serve humanity as a whole. Live, love, serve, stay present, and be happy. Peace!

Because it would cause a complete breakdown of society. Remember--there's always someone bigger and more powerful than you, in one way or another, and if you were set free to do what you wanted, so would they. You could just as easily be their target as anyone else. And I'm also not taking any chances that once you're dead, you're dead. Even if you're not Christian, there are enough other religions which believe in an afterlife not to believe in something.

No... unless you have no morals. If that's the case consider living in some sort of commune where everyone feels the same way. Then you can fight each other for whatever you want. Most people decide that they have morals that they want to live by, and they will protect themselves, and loved ones - families and friends against anyone who decides they will try to infringe on their safety and well-being.
In our society most of us choose to live with morals, where your work to obtain what you want and need in this life. Those who go against this by choice usually wind up in jail or having to deal with some sort of punishment for infringing on other's rights.
You know the old saying, I am sure... Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You. Well... if you feel okay with someone infringing on your safety and well-being, then I suppose it would be fine when it comes around and bites you in the butt. Right?
So, anyway... I think the answer to your question comes down to morals as well as the understanding that in this society being a savage is a minority.

The way to evaluate how to live, what standard you should live by, is to assume everyone should live just like you choose to. If they did, would this be a good life, or would this be a miserable life?
If you can't trust anybody, if you can't walk your neighborhood without fear of a barbaric attack, if you have no legal recourse to the evil others perpetrate on you, would you still want to live by the standard of 'everything is fair game?'

This answer from 'Religion and Spirituality' point:
Yes, we ought to be fair while we are living. We can perform no deeds after we are dead. We shall be accountable for our 'deeds' AND our Faith held here in this life. 'The Fair' is expressly defined with limitations and parameters, in religions and in spirituality. Beyond the stated limits of Fairness, it is all Unfair.

Would you really WANT everything to be fair game? Doesnt' sound like a groovy option to me...many of us that are doing well as things are, wouldn't exist if we were 'fair game'

It is like that already in nature. Humans pretend to be above that, but when the sh*t hits the fan, we are no better. That's why I keep a shotgun.

What do you mean by fair game? Rape? Murder? What kind of life would that be? Your thinking is immature.

Well, not for me. I'm an atheist, but hurting people makes me feel bad and doing nice things makes me feel good. It isn't religion and fear of eternal punishment that guides my behavior.
