There is the kiss of welcome and of parting; the long, lingering, loving, present one; the stolen, or the mutual one; the kiss of love, of joy, and of sorrow; the seal of promise and the receipt of fulfillment.

(I wonder if there is a Dutch kiss...)

French are the first one to do it with the tongue. They are considered the pioneers of romance. American kisses are those pecks on the lips that Zack gave Kelly on Saved by the Bell. British people don't kiss. They just nod.

Because when France was occupied in the war, the french women who were with our solders showed them some new kissing they never had before. So it really was a reference point. It was named after the war. Of couse it was vulgar and nasty and all that to a proper american society who at the time wouldn't even nurse their babies.

The French have always had more liberal views on sex and such other things. So maybe they were the best ones to be honored with the term french kissing.

because the French are legendary for their romance and passion with physical love and a ''french kiss'' as opposed to a simple lip kiss or cheek kiss has much more passion and fervor. and no, the other countries don't have a kiss named after them.

baiser avec la ferveur.... avec amour !

Because the US military who fought in WWII learned it from French women. Then they came back and showed it to their wifes, which led to a LOT of kids. I think they call them the Baby Boomers now.
