A small claims complaint is not complete until the defendant has been officially served with a copy of the plaintif's claim and order to defendent. There are four methods to service the claims to the defendant?

It depends on the state.

But generally, the following are allowed: service in hand (personal service) using a professional process server (or sherriff, or sometimes any uninvolved third party); service by certified or registered mail; or waiver of formal service by consent of the defendant.

Some states allow service to the residence of the defendant, either affixed to the door or handed to any adult resident. Some states allow waiver of service if the defendant shows up at the court.
