1) friday, the shuttle (the shuttle external tank, in fact, since it's the highest part of the shuttle) was struck by lightning, so the nasa guys needed to have more time before lift-off to check whether or not the lightning had damaged the shuttle. It took them days. So the initial take off was postponed from sunday to today,
2) but, since ernesto is coming towards the shuttle take off site, the winds have been blowing harder than the shuttle can take during take off... So, to prevent a failure and to protect both astronautes and the shuttle, they removed the shuttle to its hangard. (well, it will take them 2 days to bring it back completely. They're bringing it back as we speak.)

the lightning strike that hit the launchpad on friday, along with the incoming Hurricane, "Ernesto", has forced nasa to move the space shuttle back into the Veichle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Centre, a building designed to withstand the strength of a hurricane, and which is 40 stories tall

The shuttle itself was not hit - something else on the launch pad that is designed to take a hit by a lightning bolt (thus protecting the shuttle) was hit. Otherwise, all the above answers are essentially correct.

NASA's being extra-cautious.

The launch tower was struck by lightning a few days ago. That, combined with the impending arrival of Tropical Storm Ernesto, has them feeling extremely cautious about the next launch.
