Laci Peterson. Before her Chandra Levy, and before her "The Yosemite Tourists" - a lady, her teen-aged daughter and the daughter's friend, a young woman from Argentina.
I maintain a web site for a church in Modesto. I look at the visitor statistics every few days. We come up in the first ten in Google for some variations of [Modesto map] and [Modesto news]. Every time Laci Peterson hit the news, our visits would go up.
Gallo, the world's biggest winery, has its HQ here, but the Gallo people rarely hit the news. They mind their own business and put out drinkable wine in a broad price range.
Modesto is the cultural center of Stanislaus County, so if you live in Turlock or Oakdale you may be interested in what is going on in the "big city", but for people outside of the county, we're just a handy place to stop, get gas, go to the bathroom and maybe get something to eat while driving up or down Highway 99.

I even have lived in the two places, and picture Turlock may be the greater efficient decision for you. that's nicer, cleanser, and the college is right there. as nicely, in case you lived in Modesto, your holiday to college could be approximately 20-half-hour. Hwy. ninety 9 is quite busy, in undesirable shape, and human beings tension like maniacs ! As for the climate...the summers are very heat and dry. interior the wintry climate months that's damp, many times foggy, and it particularly circumstances even freezes.
