This may be an example of racism vs predjudice.
Here are my layman definitions
Racism: Feeling hatred or extreme disgust for people of one or more race.
Predjudice: Making assumptions or judgements based on race.
These comments are no doubt disturbing, but they seem to be an example of Predjudice, this person may not think themselves to be racist, but they have a skewed perception of reality because of these predjudices.
modified: Oh yeah btw, someone should really remind this girl that Mexicans do the majority of hard-working manual labor jobs in this country, calling them lazy is ignorant even for a racially predjudiced person. If you want to stereotype a race you can't ignore the majority

Her first remark was, of course racist in intent and meaning. To suggest, either, that all blacks and Mexicans are too lazy to work, or that only blacks and Mexicans are on some kind of tax-based government assistance programs only shows her ignorance of the facts.
It, further, also ignores the fact that most of her tax dollars go to programs that have nothing to do with any kind of welfare system. Most of her Federal taxes go into the military budget. The rest goes into transportation programs, such as to build and maintain roads, airports, bridges, etc. Money is spent on disaster relief programs, law enforcement, communications, environmental protection, medical research, and a whole array of things your "friend" would be very sorry to do without.
State and local taxes go into health and education, law enforcement, roads, dams, pest control, agriculture and many, many more places. Perhaps, if she were robbed, at gunpoint, she would expect to be allowed to call her "friends" to come and help her, rather than rely on a police officer, paid by the taxes she resents giving up.
While her second remark wasn't particularly racist in nature, it exposes her for being overly sensitive to the existance of races other than white. It is as if she is uncomfortable with HER place in society.
It's too bad for her, and I'd be a little worried about you. One, that you even have to ask if these remarks are racist; two, that you consider such people like her as friends, and finally, that you might let her get away with such comments without you saying anything to her. Are you more afraid of hurting her feelings than of her hurting the feelings of everyone she insulted?

A lot of people on here are upset by her comments....while they are unintelligent to a degree (especially the comment about Mexicans being lazy) we cannot overlook the fact that stereotypes are just that and usually have a degree of validity to them. We all have racial prejudices that need to be overcome and while your friend walks that fine line of being politically incorrect the alternative of not addressing the issues at all is really no better.
PS: You and your friend were conversing not conversating...

Well they are racial remarks because they were about people's race...I think the expression you are searching for is are they RACIST remarks, and the answer is yes, they are. Does your friend know every single black and Mexican person in the country? No? Well then she's in no position to make assumptions about how many of them are in employment. And she cannot possibly be implying that there is an overabundance of black actors in Hollywood, because that would be the stupidest thing I EVER heard.

The words themselves are not racial but the way she is saying it implies prejudices. Just like the word "gay" used to mean happy and "*****" was a bundle of wood, you can turn any innocent word into an implied racial slur just by being derogatory in its usage. There is a problem with people being too pc but then there are also problems with people being to racist.

the in ordinary words element you could extremely do is record it. do not respond to it. Thats what they prefer. some human beings purely get a kick out of the feedback they get from others even as they answer. record it and flow on. do not enable it worry you on a own element. then you truthfully are letting some fool get the finest of you.

Yes, it's the racist mentality. There's a lot of white trash out there, fat ugly white women on welfare, not only the people your friend referenced.

Nope just a simple truth, and a question about a movie quality indicator.
There are plenty of bad white movies too but most black ones really suck. Only seen a couple of decent ones. But thats ok I guess Im not their target market anyway.

She is ignorant. There are a lot of people that are out of work. Tell her to look at the stats and find out what race is actually benefiting from welfare..
