Some of you people don't have to be so heartless. What if you lost your ome and everything you have worked hard for. If it happened to you how would you feel if people were tired of hearing about you.

Although its true Fla.has had alot of hurricanes none of its cities were ever completly wiped out because of one.Its not just N.O,but Gretna,Harvey,Marrero,Chalmette,N.O.East,Westwego just to name a few.As far as those that are TIRED of hearing about it,bet you didn't do 1 thing to help out because you are too self absorbed to care about fellow human beings. You are DISGUSTING and I am glad not to know you. YOU ARE TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT IT..TRY LIVING IT. You can't know how bad it is till you experience it .Look around your house right now,the whole house people, furniture, food, pictures, dishes, appliances etc.now picture they are there when you go to sleep and in the am you have just a couple of minutes to gather enough clothes for 3 days and leave the rest. You think you'll come back in 3 days and it will be still there.WELL GUESS WHAT, YOU LOSE EVERTHING..cars,jobs,houses and even family members ,pets all that you had EXCEPT those 3 outfits.AND NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT IT OR HELP YOU begin to get your life back. Imagine(even those of you w/ such small minds) living w/ only 3 outfits, kinda hard to get a job w/o a car and no bus service w/i 5 miles. Hate to be so long ,don't want you to miss that tv show or game or sale at the mall. OOH isn't that nail color to die for! Sarcastic, you bet !Mad,HELL YEAH.I know you didn't put me in New Orleans but what about some compassion for our children who had no xmas last year?No new school uniforms, school supplies ,tvs or any toys and now have to be glad to sleep on a mat on the floor because Fema cares about as much as most of you.I am NOT a Katrina survivor.I AM A KATRINA VICTIM.Oh yeah, then La. doesn't have $$ so after working in the school system for 10 years I get cut off unemployment and never got
disaster benefits, yes I get a few food stamps but you try buying diapers, toilet paper, shampoo etc.w/them...you can't We did leave but our houses and stuff stayed.there was 3 ft of water in our house when we went back in Oct.

Personally, I feel that the correct protocol was not taken. Many residents of New Orleans did not have power up to 10 hours before the storm so how could one possibly evacuate. Also, it was not the hurricane that caused all the disaster it was the lack of responsibility of the engineer who waited 40 + years to adhere to the codes and upkeep of the levees. When the levees broke that's when all hell broke loose. That's why people blame the govt. Do you believe if the Statue of liberty needed upkeep or maintenance it will be ignored for 30 + years or even the White House. i don't think so? Ignoring the levees was just the political agenda of the big time builders to rebuild New Orleans as a Casino district. they were just awaiting something to destroy and clear as many poor and minorities as they could without paying them off to move. Gentrification, look it up!!

Imagine your 16 year old cousin picked up for a possible suspect for vandalism on Aug. 28, 2005 just because he fit the description of a young black male with a red t-shirt and blue jeans. He sat in a holding cell for 48 hours. Due to all the drama with Katrina he was not given the phone call nor did he get evacuated. As the water grew him and other whom were stopped or detained by the police just set in a cell while the water was rising. They all drowned many were not even convicted nor did they committ crimes (runaways, profiled suspects) See the media left out so many things and you have the audacity to say its whining many people died slow and painfully, watching there lives pass by why the water rose. Our gov't who say the work for all people have their political agendas and the caliber of people whom made up New Orleans did not make their agenda!! And Katrina was an aid in whipping out what they see as the bottom percentage!! As of today CNN reported that the levees are still not up to par and a category 1-2 hurrican many cause additional damage!!

I'M NOT A VICTIM BUT I HAVE COMPASSION FOR OTHER MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND THERE FAMILY STAYED WITH ME FOR MONTHS WHILE THEY TRY TO PIECE THERE LIVES BACK TOGETHER JUST IMAGINE YOUR LIFE ON A BLACK BOARD FULLED THEN ITS ALL ERASED AWAY!! HOW WOULD YOU FEEL??

Being from the land of hurricanes. North Carolina. We have withstood catagories 4-5's with in 2 months of each other. "Bertha and Fran". Yes the act of God is powerful. The victims are "The People" Their local goverment sucks. But, they are the only ones that can do anything about that situation. All I hear is how no one has help them people. 90 million people in this country open doors to them. The People and their local goverment should be the one's to pay for their own levy. It's their city. They knew about this disaster before it even happen. Their Local goverment and it revenue were careless and need to own up to their own responsiblies. Our city did. Yes. some Fema was use to some victims but, over all we the people with our tax money cleaned this city and rebuild and still rebuilding. You dont hear us victims crying about a damn thing and yes we lost lives as well. We are coming up on a another hurricane and we just know what to do. And do it. These storms are not a joke and there is a procedure that has to be taken. Our local schools and school buses are our shelter and transportation. Less confusion that way. Dont get me wrong I feel for all the victims. But you only stay a victim as long as you want to. It's ther choice. I say "Build a levy and get on with it"

Since there isn't a hurricane coming our way we
feel pretty good. We have a long way to go but we
have not given up. Every day we see a little more recovery. Right now it is raining. It's a typical
summer rainstorm. Right after the rain leaves it will be muggy again. Our children are back in school
studying and learning. We are glad we are now a year
past Katrina. Thank-you for thinking about us.

If they had left when they were told to, most of the deaths wouldn't have happend. If you live on the seaside, and your land is 15 feet below sea level, only a dunce would think that at some time, the were not going to get wet. Everyone is so adamant about it being the hurricane's fault for the flooding. Doesn't anyone remember that the town didn't have 1 inch of water in it for 3 days AFTER the storm had passed? New Orleans is one of the most corrupt cities in the nation. Had they been doing their jobs instead of accepting bribes, graft, and everything else, this catastrophe wouldn't have happened. In this world you get what you pay for, and they got Mayor Ray. Hundreds of city schoolbusses were flooded, while parked in their lots, and could have been used for evacuation, if someone had a brain.
Do I feel for them? Hell NO! You call them victims? Of what? An act of God combined with stupidity, and greed? I say, Sorry, but tough!

Yeah, the pictures I see on TV a year later with debre and trash, junkie homes that looked in ill repair, ie needing painted. Never been to, nor do I want to go to New Orleans. All the debre and trash was probably there before Katrina and just part of the rundown areas pictured? They are probably waiting for someone else to clean it up instead of doing it themselves. I've seen and heard way too much about New Orleans and not enough about the rest of the coast hit by the hurricane.

It's sad that people are taking advantage of the Federal Government. The state has received money, the city has received money, and the people have received money.
I live about 65 miles west southwest of New Orleans.I am a shame that this state is raking the federal government across the coals.
Keep in mind that those people decided to stay and ride out the storm. It was televised on fox, cnn, weather channel, and every local station on the gulf coast that katrina was coming.
New Orleans dont deserve no sympathy.

Alot has been done here to rebuild, but there is still so much to do. I was here for the Hurricane. I was incredibly lucky. I was in a safe building and the few days I stayed after before going to Baton Rouge, were still ok. The gas stove still worked, the shower still had pressure. Many people are gone and won't return, they have settled in to other jobs and homes. It will take time for all wounds to heal.

Confused, heck I'm a Florida resident, so I, we, understand and know about hurricanes. But Katrina seems to have been turned into only about New Orleans. Yes I understand bad stuff happened there, but what about Mississippi & Florida? What about individual responsibility? Heck if Florida "marked" every hurricane we had we'd be on holiday for 6 months of the year.

MY best friend lost his house and everything he owned, save for his paintbrushes. He saved one thing, that was it...

Not many people have had such a relationship with someone actually involved in the disaster. The news took the hurricane and turned it into something it wasn't. Sure, it was devistating, but the insparation and hope drawn from it.... I know about 12 teens that were in the area when it hit. They are the nicest people I've ever met, PLUS, they are all amazing artists. I think before people can really give their opinion, they need to visit and talk to people from the area....
Not just watch CBS.
