Teaching ppl to be sensitive to others is a healthy thing.

Using terminology that is of a negative tone is detrimental. For example, I can't stand to hear the phrase, "runs like a girl." unless it is actually about someone running I guess. But most of the time it is referring to running away like a coward. That always ticks me off when I believe women have more courage than men when it comes for standing up and fighting for what we believe in at all cost.

With all that said though, it can be taken to the extreme. And I have no clue what has happen to the phrase, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me."

That teaches us to let negative things bounce off us and that we choose to let somebody's elses opinion of us hurt us or not. We seem to have lost that mentality.

The negative part of being politically correct is that some ppl fight it and don't like being corrected. Most of the time these are males that have ego issues.

There is nothing good about it unless you want to keep people from being offended I guess that would be good. Bad would be that people always have to politically correct or else they stir up a whole firestorm of problems. Like with racism in this country, why the **** should I call a black person an african american when they are not from africa and their ancestors probably werent either. They are an american and it shouldnt matter. Or a redneck, if you act like a redneck I will call you a redneck and if you act like a **** er I will call you one.So shove it with political correctness its stupid......Also interesting when I type redneck its allowed to go through, but ****** I have to space to allow through, whats that all aboot eh

The main good thing is that it is designed to limit fighting between people based on racism/sexism/any other kind of discrimination. And at times it is also for better accuracy. Native Americans have usually been referred to as Indians (despite the fact they are not from India) or as American Indians (despite the fact that while they were born in America they aren't naturalized immigrant citizens of India). They are however Americans who were born in this country to a race that was originally from this country.

However, it can get a little annoying to constantly have to correct yourself because you referred to someone as retarded (as a cutdown) because it might hurt a mentally challenged person's feelings (though in all fairness isn't a little annoyance better than hurting someone's feelings for no reason). Or having to apologize because you referenced someone of Asian descent as being Oriental (which refers to things from the Orient, but not people from the Orient). Basically it can be annoying to constantly have to watch what you say, or have to constantly correct yourself and apologize.

But overall I think political correctness is a good thing that usually serves its purpose of limiting fighting and arguing, even if it does go too far sometimes.

Ther are no really good qualities of political correctness.
It takes away from the honesty of a situation.

BAD - blurs the line between right and wrong, good and bad, because you can't label anything as good or right for fear of offending or hurting the feelings of anyone who is not in agreement. Has no absolutes. Has no morals. Makes things that are abnormal seem normal. Makes people accept things that are unacceptable to them. Makes teachers and employers unable to give honest reviews/grades for fear of offending people.

GOOD - people don't have anything to be offended about. People are more sensitive to how their words impact others.

The really bad thing about politically correct views is that they messed with the "Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner hour". I mean come on....too violent? That's just dumb.

Good? Can't think of anything.

Bad? It creates little robotic automatons that have to be trained out of it once they go out into the real world of jobs, taxes, family, etc.
