Faith was once just a word that ment believing in without proof or without need of proof! Christianity and anumber other religions took advantage of that word faith.. If you have faith in your ability to do a good job you'll do a good job. If you merely belief you'll do a good job you might come up with some doubts about your ability! Understand the difference between belief and faith? Oh if one is talking religious Faith it is suppose to be capitalized.
for most part here I'm talking faith not Faith
I don't have faith in Religions but I have Belief in a Religion! Oh I believe I am a good cook so therefore I do a good job and am a good cook! Were did it come from? Webster!

Faith is most essential to live the life of a perfect man. However, blind faith is dangerous and anybody can destroy multitude with blind faith. There are enough logical reasons; why we have faith on our parents without searching for evidence. Their love and affection compell every child to accept them as his parents. Hence, he has been grown up without creating any problem. Similarly, man must have faith on God with correct concept and ideology under guidance of a Master, who has enlightened himself to be a true guide and philosopher of others. As Such, we can say that Faith is nothing but essential guide book to run across the path of our life.
obviously, faith has come from our very birth.

Faith is a belief in a higher power, something that is not seen but believed in. It is a knowing in your deep inner man that you know this gift is real that you can trust in. It comes from God so that your belief "faith" can grow. It is living by "Faith" and not by man's laws or what someone says, either church or government that you believe in your heart that what you ask for will happen.

I recently have been pondering this question. Many of us have heard that faith is like a seed - if planted it will grow - and that is only takes faith the size of a mustard seed for miracles - that faith is believing in something you can't see or touch. But what is the content of that seed. Faith is what? Faith isn't God because we have faith "in" God. Faith isn't just a belief in "something" - many people believe in something - and even though things may happen - I wouldn't call them miracles. The truth is many people all over the world have strong faith in an order or spirituality that isn't at all true for me. But they have faith. The answer lies not in what to have faith in or what the "fruit" of faith is... When it really some down to it faith is the ability to grab ahold of something to believe in. It the power or ability to wholly devote yourself to something. Faith isn't just belief or trust, isn't hope or love. Faith is the power to believe that truth, hope, love are real, pure, holy and worth more than ourselves. Faith isn't a noun - its a verb.

Faith is the way of thinking of children. It's belief based on emotion.
"Tomorrow is Christmas."
"No, Christmas is a long way away."
"No it's not, tomorrow is Christmas."
...
I've actually had this conversation with my 4 year old. He believed tomorrow was Christmas because he wanted it to be true, not because it was true. Most people never fully outgrow this tendency.
I think faith actually has survival benefit in a hunter/gatherer type society. If you don't believe you will be successful in the hunt, you will just sit still and starve. In moderation, it perhaps still serves a purpose in people who do not have the intellectual capacity to weight probabilities and act on those assessments. It can be horribly dangerous too though.

Faith is belief and in due course a cult and after sometime a religion and some times an obsession. It comes from ego and self-preservation instincts.

I don't normally take any holy book reference for answering questions. But in this case, I think there is no proper definition except the following Bible verse:
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
It has to come from individuals mind, that is the source of any wisdom.

It comes from fear...
Faith always seems to give those who have found it clarity, confidence, and a sense of deliverance.
I see it as a cop out.
