Homeless or naked? Actually it's much worse. The turtle would be dead. A turtle's shell is an integral part of its skeleton. It is not like a hermit crab. Its vertebrae are actually fused to the shell. A turtle can't be removed from its shell without dying.

Turtles and tortoises are the only reptiles that have a shell built into their skeleton.
Hence they cannot live without a shell..
So it'll be a homicide... and it'll be naked.

A turtle is dead without its shell. If you slice your backbone off your body, and then the front of your rib-cage, wouldn't you be dead? Exactly.
