Hi, I am 3 months pregnant. I heard that you should sleep on your left side. However, I am having trouble doing this all night long. At what point in pregnancy do you really have to sleep on your left side?

HI there!! You don't HAVE to sleep on your "left" side--

That IS the side you get the best blood flow through your body. Probably what you are referring to is sleeping on your Back.

The only reason you are not supposed to, is that you have a main artery that runs up your stomach to your heart, and if you DO lay on your back for Long extended periods of time--you may decrease the amount of blood flow to the placenta...Which isn't going to kill the baby, but you DO want a good blood flow to baby.

You can lay on your back, but not for a long time--You can lay back--but prop your back up (slightly upward)--This was you are NOT laying entirely flat.

BUT you CAN sleep on either your left or right side when you sleep.

Definitly, try not to sleep on your stomach anymore either--now is the time to switch to side sleeping!! :)

Good Luck with baby!!

You never *have* to sleep on your left side, but its a good idea towards the end of you second trimester to start sleeping at least some of the time on your left side. It takes the pressure of the weight of your belly off your vena cava. Good luck with your pregnancy!

I did as soon as there was a little extra weight in my stomach, I think its supposed to be when the baby gets a little bigger because of the blood flow to the organs but you ned to get used to it so I would start ASAP, I wouldnt wake up that way until just before I had him.

I am 7 months pregnant and my OBGYN says you really should try in the 3rd trimester....because the baby is getting so big and is causing poor circulation!! good luck!!

When I was pregnant, I slept however I wanted to, except on the stomach. Sleep however you want, it should not hurt you or child any. Unless your doctor specifically told you to sleep that way.

At 16 weeks. It's so hard to keep that position though. I would wake up on my back almost every night.

you sleep however it is most comfortable for you. you never "have" to sleep on your left side. i know they say it is better for circulation, but if it's not comfortable for you, don't feel like you have to.
