It seems to me that a lot of Americans have a problem with helping out Americans but those people are the same people that dont have a problem spending Billions of dollars each day in Iraq to help them out. Whats up with that. Should'nt we take care of our own even if there are few bad apples taking advantage of the system, I'm sure there are a few bad apples in Iraq.

Why because thats all you hear about on the TV that people are abusing the system. If we judged everything by those standard then we would have to cut funing for lots of programs

And you right to a certain degree but like I said if we went by your logic we would have to stop funding to Iraq and hundreds of other issues around the world that people even our leaders take advantage of the system.

You are right to a certian degree. I think what most Americans have a problem with is the area was worned that the storm would hit and told to leave. The fact is when you use an excuse such as the government didn't provide buses or help us fast enough then you are placing total blame on someone or something else. If you really have to get out of somewhere you can do no matter what is said. Also many stories have come in where "Katrina victims" want to live in hotels or somewhere luxerious instead of the provided trailers. When you throw yourself at the mercy of others than in my opinion you don't have the option to then make demands or complain. The government is not around to provide people with everything they want. I guess that is what makes me wary to help further and why I question further programs. I do want to continue to help but only those that help themselves.

Granted then you could say no one should donate to anything because there will always be some sort of corruption. Most government donations are based on foreign policy. Iraq is in a sense a new country trying to find itself. America had the same problem many years ago. But in Iraq you can say Al Quida or terrorests and group all "bad apples" in that catorgory. New Orleans is not so simple.

most ppl don't have problems with helping each other but its when the government doesn't help that makes the problem the government did not support hurricane Katrina relief program after a couple weeks it happened and the government is limiting the amount of money going into the relief program. but know ppl r starting to find that out causing them to get pissed off about how our money is being spent. at least 50% of Americans feel that way.

I agree that we should help our own first and I am against spending all of that money in Iraq but there have been more than a few bad apples abusing the funds.

100 billion and counting , billions of which goes unaccounted for
already handed over to LA.
You want to keep throwing money with no strings attached ?
1200 city and school buses not used to evacuate people , 110 ,million gallon per hour Flood Pumps that were not maintained and didn't work when needed.
a state that recieved 58 billion over 10 years to maintain the levys and can't account for where the money went .
And it's all Bush's fault , right ?

I don't understand this either...spending money in Iraq is bad enough but spending our tax dollars on illegal immigrants living in the USA ...unconscionable.
I watched Brian Williams special on Katrina last night & could not believe the way our government treated American citizens...not blacks or poor but AMERICAN CITIZENS! Bush should be impeached over this!!

The problem is that there's no cut-off point. The money keeps rolling as long as the recipient wants it to. If you're paying, I don't object. But, since I'm paying, there needs to be a limit.
