I like the question, I think it's interesting!! It could be an ostrich, he's got his head in the ground and his body out in the air. Could be toes in a flip flop. your foot is in the shoe but your toes are out in the open. Or a dangling ear ring that is in your ear lobe but hangs out in the open?
