It means you can get onto a network and that may or may not get you on the internet.

Bring your laptop to a coffeeshop or something advertising free wifi internet. Then you can get on.

To use your wireless card, you have to have a wireless signal being broadcast in the area where you want to use the card. For home, you will need to purchase a wireless router. It will go between the cable or DSL modem and your desktop. The wireless router will broadcast a signal for the wireless card to read.

Go into My Neighwork Places and run the Network Connection wizard. Once the router is in place, the wizard will connect your laptop to it.

You can also use the wireless card if you go to a friend's house who has a wirelss router broadcasting, or at "hot spots" like most Starbuck's where they have a free wireless signal. (They will have step by step instructions for setting up their wireless signal).

That means you can access the net if you are close to a public wireless access point or if you have a wireless modem or wireless router in your house.

if you own a wireless broadband modem/router in your home then yes, you can access the internet using the wireless card - by connecting to the wireless modem using the wireless card.

but without a wireless access point, be it in your house attached to your phoneline, or in a cafe/hotel/airport, your wireless card has no real use.

don't forget to 'accept' this answer if it helped.
