it will only pull up file when i hit f, edit when i hit e... etc. but it will not let me type on the internet search tool. i am using another computer to type this? help please. do i go to the control panel or what ??????

If you stated corrected that you can open Files with "f" and Edit with "e" (and not with alt+f and alt+e) then I would guess that you have an alt key stuck down on the keyboard. try a different keyboard and see if it resolves the issue. If it does, get a new keyboard (cheap at Walmart) or try to unstick the key.

This might be happening either because your keyboard cable is loose or it might be dusty in the cable, computer, or in the keyboard. If it is wireless same things, but your keyboard's batteries are probably weak.

do you use PS/2 keyboard. Then take out the plug and see if any thing, especially the pins are all right.

It sounds like your Alt Key is stuck. Check to see if it needs to be assisted to it's original position.

mine does this every now and then, what i have to do is reboot the pc.
other wise get a new keyboard their cheap

unplug the keyboard then plug it back in. if that doesn't work, reboot your computer. if that doesn't work, go to office depot and get yourself another keyboard.

if it's plugged in and not working it's probably dead.
