Who else thinks that sensationalized news stories like this, that end up going nowhere and are forgotten in a matter of days, are merely a diversion to the real more pressing problems in the world? I personally, think these are all carefully planned to be a distraction. What do you think?

Writing everything off like this as a "crazy conspiracy theory" means you just don't like to think about things too much, don't like to think for yourself, or don't wish to think about things that are contrary to what "they" tell you....

Okay, some people don't understand the question. I agree--John Mark Karr is a weirdo okay he looks weird, he's obsessed with JonBenet Ramsey etc. etc..... I know all this. The question isn't about John Mark Karr individually, but how cases like these seem to be popping up everyday, while almost NO reports on the war, the administration's activities, worldwide death and destruction. You know, things you think would be actual news breakthroughs. I mean, on the 11 o'clock news last night the newscaster said they have "Breaking News" and it was what John Mark Karr had on his sandwhich the other day (not really, I changed the channel cus I was sick of hearing about it.)

Thank God for your Gypsy..I love it when someone thinks like me! Yes, it was certainly a distraction from the REAL problems right now. Now the question is: what did we miss while this was being shoved down our throats?
Very good point..

Gypsy, there used to be a time when we had real journalists who cared about telling the stories of unfolding history. During those times, the News Divisions of every network on TV lost money. But in the last 10 years, networks have ordered their news divisions to become profit centers -- and that means increased viewers.

The bottom line of profit has now translated into sensationalized "info-tainment" in the place of real news. If you have to get viewers at all costs, then you have to sacrifice integrity and go for the "flash." The Ramsey murder is just such a case. Let's be honest. It was ten years ago, and it really doesn't have national (let alone international) importance. So why spend as much time on it as the networks have? You know the answer; and so do I...

Sensationalism draws viewers -- increased viewers means more money charged to sponsors -- And that means more profits for networks. And you know who's ultimately to blame? We are, if we continue to watch this nonsense.

Great question, Gypsy.

Actually, he was completely obsessed with JonBenet. He's a very mentally sick man. I think he just wanted the attention. It may be a diversion from the more pressing issues, but I don't think it was a planned distraction. He's been obsessing over her for years. And now that the Boulder authorities have dropped the charges, prosecutors in California want to bring him there so they can charge him with child porn charges from 2001. He really is a sick person, not just some planned diversion cooked up by the media or any other source.

Gypsy Rose, you'll discover that each time anything requires plain commonsense - you know, that thing that isn't common - and facts, the majority will rather it was shelved or would term it "conspiracy theory". Because of a tragic state of affairs in the US, people still capable of reason are threats, and would rather not be dealt with. See my "Human or Robot?" - http://www.geocities.com/ulafrique/nanotechnology.html

Imposters all around us in the "land of the free and the home of the brave." No, no, no. This is not Sci-fi. Just think about the possibility, and a lot will begin to fall into place.

I think John Mark Karr is a case of one more disturbed person, seeking that 15 minutes of fame. The whole thing from the start had a very odd tone to it. I'm not necessarily thinking it was a purposeful/ diversionary tactic done by the Law enforcement agencies. But, it did seem odd that they were willing to make an arrest for a Man who did NOT actually admit to the killing! VERY STRANGE!

It's funny that you say that - the people at my work feel it is a diversion, too. I'm not sure if it's that or some sick attempt at twisted notoriety. Either way, sensationalizing a person's death, especially a child's, is not commendable. All in all, the man is a sick freak. If he is part of some diversion or conspiracy, it's sad, very sad.

I agree with you to the extent that this does happen, but its usually a story that is more related to politics. Like say some bogus terror alert or bomb threat. If the GOP used this for a diversion, then there stooping to new lows. Big surprise there.

I agree... There is something fishy about his confessing... and I don't mean to be insensitive or anything but I am sick of the focus on this 10 year old case when children are being killed this century...
