I don't recall exactly what they all were but in the past few years there have been awards given to Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Matrix, Minority Report. I think it is easy to forget because the majority of Sci-fi films tend to take us to a rather detatched reality and though the Historical epic type films do as well, it seems that the accadamy is more inclined to give those films credit because the voters are pompious and rich and have little ability to imagine a Sci-Fi existence.

The Lord of the Rings franchise, which is considered Sci-Fi, received 11 Oscars altogether including Best Picture, Best Director for Return of the King.

Jurassic Park won three Oscars.

I'm sure there are many others.

They generally win the technical and sound awards. They seldom go up for best picture. The reason is that most of science fiction movies are technically driven. the acting is questioned, or supposed to be weak. Noteable movies include Star Wars, Bladerunner, Matrix and 2001 A Space Odyssey

Sci-fi movies often get Oscars from sound, makeup, etc. I doubt that one will ever get a best picture because they are not taken seriously by the Academy.

Return of the King won Best Picture the year it came out.

I don't know about you, but I consider the Ring trilogy science fiction.
