the periodontists are relentless-they want me to make a career out of going to them-now they say gum surgery. What a nightmare that is and I don't believe it will solve anything as the bacteria returns. I am convinced there is a kinder, less intrusive, healthier way of dealing with this-anyone have experience with alternative methods??????

I wouldn't let it go - unpleasant as it is - it's my understanding that gum disease can contribute to other health conditions including heart disease. I would do whatever I had to do to remedy the situation.

That being said, I had some scaling and antibiotic applied topically several years ago. My condition wasn't too severe but since I had that done, I make sure I floss daily and use a rotodent electric toothbrush each night. I was using a tongue cleaner but another dental assistant recommended using my toothbrush to clean the sides of my jaws and whole mouth. Since I added that to my regime I have very little plaque buildup and the last several years there has been no further gum disease.

Good luck!

My friend, a periodontist, recommends USANA products to his patients as many gum problems are the result of poor nutrition. Some folks need more supplementation than others. Go to my website and read and watch the videopresentations at www.gesundheit.usana.com...Any more questions call or email at the listed info and I will get him on the line for you.

The American indians used Sanguinaria or bloodroot to cure gum disease. Bloodroot can be found over the internet, in health food stores, etc. The powder is rubbed on the gums, allowed to stay on the gums for about 15 minutes and then rinses. This treatment helped my gums considerably.

You need to improve your nutrition. A good multivitamin-mineral pill daily, with vitamin C and vitamin E . Coenzyme Q10 has been helpful in some cases. Also take a calcium-magnesium-zinc pill 3 times a day with meals, and a good full spectrum essential fatty acid supplement as directed. Get plenty of high quality protein for tissue maintainance and repair.

Try using Myrrh Tincture diluted in water as a mouth wash. Use 30 drops to one ounce of water. It is extremely bitter so I usually use peppermint tea instead of water. Myrrh is highly anti-bacterial. You might also consider using Goldenseal Tincture if you cannot find the Myrrh.
