I am a Democrat. In my opinion, the Democratic party isn't offering any viable solution. Most of the comments people are making seem pretty much true to me. Right now, the Democratic party is too busy shooting arrows into the backs of the Republicans.
As a Democrat, however, I feel there is a direction in which the nation must go in order the beat the terrorists problem. I believe we must continue with swift and strong military action in response to aggression. Our military, however, is not capable of winning this war. This war is like no other we have ever fought.
In a conventional war, our army must only conquer the enemy's central core, or its head. This enemy grows a new head each time. The only way to beat this enemy is to cut off its legs and make it immobile. The only way to do that is to move the USA toward energy independence.
Oil revenue is what is fueling this enemy. Countries like Iran are using oil money to finance terrorism and develop nuclear weapons. Our interest in securing an oil supply has been the root of unrest in the entire Middle East region. We have supported despots and dictators in the area to stabilize our energy sources. Imagine how most of you would feel if a foreign country secured Clinton as president for life.
The Republican party has ties that are too close to big business to move the country toward energy independence. The relationship that the GOP has with business has produced good for the country as well as some bad. But, every silver lining has a dark cloud.
Only the Democratic party can take this task on successfully. Their failure to recognize that energy independence is a national security issue and not a global warming issue is preventing the country from rallying to the cause. In this way, the Democratic party is failing the nation.

Pay attention to memos that say things like, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in US"
Catch those who mastermind attacks on the US (like Khalid Shiek Muhammad, the planner of the WTC bombing or, I don't know, a 6+ foot guy on a dialysis machine who has gone missing)
Check the terror watchlist
Get off of oil

Maybe realize that the "war on terror" is kind of like a "war on murder" in that we will never really get rid of terror as a tactic, we can only be vigilant and try to prevent it through intelligence and perseverence instead of a string of pre-emptive wars.
