I have been in the goat business for two years and recently our funding for the goats has ended and we are sadly having to sell them all.
I have already sold four and the remaining three does are spoken for, but the billy goat, I have no idea what to ask for it.
He is 1 1/2 yrs old and has fathered 1 kid and studded 7 does this summer. His mother was registered nubian and his dad was registered boer. He is white with a brown head, a black mane down his neck and a brown saddle marking on his back. He is very gentle, I bottle fed him from two months old when we bought him.
Any ideas on what a good price would be would be helpful, I don't believe in taking animals to the sale barn auctions, I have seen so many mistreated there, and with so many animals there you never know what diseases they carry.
Thanks

Since he has boer in him he cannot be registered with the dairy goat association. And boer goat breeders don't like bucks who aren't fullblooded or purebred. Normally anyway. He may only sell for $50 or you might get lucky and get $100. Unfortunatly he isn't techincally worth too much, I'm in California and that's how they go about it here. You need to look for someone looking for a nice pet with a few girls to let him go for. Bottling feeding him may get a good home as well, because people think that a great attribute to have for a buck. You may want to advertise him as a commercial buck, he may get more hits that way.

In Mississippi, the going prices of billies are $50 and up, most averaging around $75. If you aren't sure what to price him, I'd maybe check a market bulletin (if you have one for your area) or just go sit in at a sale to see what the going prices are. I don't blame you for not wanting to take him to a sale barn. We've actually been looking for a billy as ours died not long ago. We went to a sale last Saturday and ended up leaving because we were disgusted at how the handlers treated the animals. I would never take anything of mine to one.

I would say around 175 $. depending on what his kids turn out to be. If he is gentle thats a good thing. A lot of people like that. If he is dehorned maybe you could sell him for a little more. If he is not then a little less. Try an add in the paper. You would be able to meet the people you sell him to and deside if you want to sell him to them.
