I have a 1995 Legacy wagon (non-turbo) and it's been pretty reliable. I replaced the (manual) transmission at 135k miles, as it had a locked center differential. Otherwise, the car has been exceptionally reliable and continues to run fine with 155k miles on it. In particular, the electric components are excellent, such as power windows, locks, fan motors, switches, cruise control, etc. This stuff has NEVER broken on my car and they get a lot of use. The paint and body on the car have held up quite well, too.

The car isn't perfect but I'd buy another.

i bought one a couple of months ago, twin turbo 96 model and have found it very good with no problems as yet, the only thing that i have come across is that there is a flat spot just before the turbos kick in, i have just posted a question on this problem to see if there is any cure. the flat spots only last 1/2 a second or so and i was told that by using higher octane fuel that this would help which it does but doesn't quite get rid of them,i would nt let this put you off buying one as they are absolute flying machines i have had a couple of minor mods added to it and it will do about 160 mph, fuel econ is good when you drive it accordingly will do 70 mph without either turbo coming in. hope this helps. bono069

i have a subaru impreza wrx and i have no complaints about speed or handling or stopping power but the running costs are high i recently fitted a clutch which cost 200 pound at trade cost if id had it done in a garage i estimate it would have been around 400-500 also general parts are fairly expensive the petrol consumption is not good if you drive like a granny you will never get any better than 35mpg with air con off air con on 30mpg and if your doin it colin mcrae style you will get 5mpg so you can use a quarter tank in ten miles good fun but expensive

My dad just got a 2001 Legacy and it is great. Subaru are renown for their reliability so you shouldn't worry too much about that.
