As a manager of a temp agency I've found that clerical jobs go really fast, and they are also great for getting the experience that is needed. Often times they will hire our temps full time. If I were you, I would give my resume's with the applications at every temp agency in your town. 9 times out of 10 something will come up to keep your pocket book busy.

Yes, temp agencies are a good way to get experience and often lead to a full time job. Some companies prefer not to screen job applicants so they let the temp agency do that for them. Many positions are offered through agencies as "temp-to-hire." That means they'll contract you temporarily through the agency and if they like your work they'll hire you as a full-time employee (and pay a fee to the agency for finding you for them!). If they think you're not a good fit for their culture, you'll go back into the agency's pool and be assigned to another job--this is not a bad thing, it gets you more experience.
This is a very good approach for someone in your situation having no experience, and it's good for the employer, too. Interview agencies as you would employers (the agency becomes your employer). Ask for the agency's track record in placing people in full-time positions and ask how much down-time their other temps experience on the average. Their answers should give you an idea of which agency to sign on with.
Good luck!

Yes, you can get some entry-level jobs if you need experience from them. But not all agencies have jobs that you're looking for. Just depends on where you live and what types of industry are available.
I've temped before and got asked to become a permanent employee in a great job in a medical field. So good things can happen temping.

When I was just starting out in life, Manpower temp agency worked very well for me to get a quick job, experience, and a weekly paycheck. I had typing skills from a class I was forced to take in high school. My quick and accurate typing kept me working whenever I wanted. I tried working in different environments: corporate, small business, non-profit, and government so I got a good feel for where I would want to seek jobs. Most places I worked had full-time positions available and temping with the company was an excellent way to get a foot in the door. When I decided to apply for a permanent job, I had two good offers from places I temped at. If you have a strong work ethic, it will be noticed and you will have opportunities all the time.
The best way to get jobs is to call the temp agency everyday and let them know you are eager to work. The agency will often offer training in office skills. Take advantage of the training- it will get you more higher paying positions.

WOW...Temp agencies SUCK. Let me give you an example. I have been looking for a new job for almost three months! I have gone to more than 4 or 5 different temping agencies and I have had NO LUCK! Now, they want you to come in, and sit with them so that they can talk to you about what you want to do in your life, what your have done, and what you are looking for. Then, they make you take tests that usually take about an hour and a half to finish, and you have to take them there. You waste your whole day there, just to wait for a phone call that might be an opportunity, but most of the time, they don't even call back. You see, the way that some temp agencies work, is they tend to place an ad in the paper just so they can meet their weekly quota with the company. These recruiters only waste people's time. That's my personal opinion!

Temp agencies do work. Alot of times employers are having a hard time finding people with the skills they need for the job so they turn to the temp service. Once u go thru the temp agency u will be with them 30 days and AFTER that if the company likes your work they will put u on their payroll! PLUS once u go on their payroll the money is alot better!!!!! Ive done this twice and it turned into full time job both times!

Temping's okay but you don't have the benefits that you'd have as an employee at an office job or something. Something to consider however...you could do temp jobs that will allow you to get all the experience you need in order to be able to get the job you want and go from there. It's a pretty sad world now when they say having a degree means a lot and goes far but doesn't really unless you have "experience". You might want to consider getting a home based business you can do at home in your spare time until you get the income you desire to be able to say "I'm not working to make someone else rich anymore..." Have you considered that possibility? Opened to additional streams of income from your own home being your own boss? That's what I did when I found http://www.bedavis1.mywayout.net/ and fell in love with it. Robert Kiyosaki of the Rich Dad Poor Dad's "The Business School" says it's the way to go to getting on the other side of that cash flow quadrant! Check it out! Check them all out and see what you like. DO check with the BBB (better business bureau) for legitimacy, complaints, praises and ratings on the company as there are scams out there.
Good luck on your endeavor!

temp agencies can be a good way to gain experience as you said.
keep in mind that most of them will keep a percentage of your wages each paycheck, it id the fee for finding the job for you. so if you get a job at 14 dollars an hour you will probably only take home 10-12 an hour.
