Several football teams in New York have used the name borrowed from the baseball team New York Yankees.

New York Yankees (NFL) a team that played in the 1926 American Football League before joining the NFL from 1927-28.
New York Yankees (1936-37) a team that played in the 2nd AFL from 1936-37. Some sources including the Pro Football Hall of Fame calls the the Yanks.
New York Yankees (1940 AFL) a team that played in the 3rd AFL in 1940.
New York Yankees (AAFC) played 1946-49 in the All-America Football Conference.
Also a separate NFL team was named the New York Yanks from 1950-51. The Yanks had previously been named New York Bulldogs in 1949.
