I personally liked the old one. The way Gene Wilder acted overall, was freaking hilarious. I didn't get Johnny Depp in the new one at all, it wasn't as funny as the original. But I am happy he didn't try to act like Gene. The only thing I really liked about the new one was the Danny Elfman did the music score, and Tim Burton directed it.

The old one is great, a good mixture of philosophy, humor, and music.

The new one is an director trying to put his mark on a story but loosing the philosophy, straining the humor and substituting bad music for good.

One good thing to say about the second version is at least the chocolate river looked real.

I liked the old Chocalate Factory, but since the new one came out u get a different perspective of Willy Wonka. And the new movie was way more colorful, and Johnny Depp did a great job in the movie. In the old movie Gene Wilder also did a good job in the movie. But I think overall I like the new one better. It's classic Tim Burton, and he makes great movies.

I absolutely adore the original! the newer version kinda scared me, especially Johnny Depp... The twist with his father being a dentist was kind of lame... And the end of the movie was all wrong! The Gene Wilder one gets my vote! I even like the Oompa Loompas better!

I like the old one as well... Gene was great, but you have to consider that the new one was as you said a Tim Burton flick. That alone should make most people realize it was going to be more weird/ creepy then funny.

And I do thing Depp pulled the creepy thing off just fine. :-)

The Classic one with Gene Wilder is just that a CLASSIC..the remake is a terrible excuse for a movie another crapper combination of Depp and Burton! It was a crime what they did with that remake!

I thought both were well done but I did like the old one more. Partly because I though Gene Wilder was more like the charactor in the book and in the 2nd movie I didn't like the way they did the end with his father. Come to think of it I don't think either of them ended exactly like in the book.

Well, I will stick my neck out and say it, I liked the new one better. I thought it was really funny, and Johnny Depp in those fake teeth and that wig were wild. I also enjoyed the family members. Mom and Dad and the grandparents were well cast.

I didn't like either of them but I would probably choose the old one over the new one. Johnny Depp looks really creepy in the new one!
