I can falter between the two depending on the predicament of the situation. I’d say I’m a smart *** and I do well at work, but being a dumb *** gives you room for laughs.

Dependable but dumb is always good if your job does not require brains.

Hardworking smart a$$ is good when in a intellectual environment.

Functional dumb as*ses get away with a lot more!

It depends entirely upon if you actually like to work, or slack... Here, (in this God awful hick state I live in...) It seems to me that people here go out of their way and spend 8 hours a day (5 realistically) making up ways and excuses to avoid doing their own jobs... and they hate you if your like to work. makes them look bad! Which of course brings out the smartas*s in anyone with a grain of intelligence... but that get's you fired here...

They don't like smartasses or competition so manipulation and dumbas*s rules the majority...

Better to be known as a hard worker and contributor to your work environment -- makes for a longer career and a better chance of promotion.

Unfortunately in most work places there isn't room for either. Whatever seperates you from your colleagues, be it good or bad, usually gets you fired. I know this from experience, as I've been too dumb in my smartypants ways for too long.

I'd say a good balance of both would be looked upon most highly.
