If Mississippi was struck by a hurricane, how would you be able to tell?

It does anger me, and I am in Louisiana, how the media hasn't covered the destruction in other cities and states. I guess with New Orleans being the focus because of the levees and all the irresponsibility of ALL branches of govt. to get people out was the biggest stories. I do commend the Governor of Mississippi for being a little more organized than ours. My father's house was completely destroyed in Diamondhead, Mississippi (along with the whole city), and my sister is still living in a tent in Mississippi because they are working on construction in Biloxi. Everybody(media) forgets that Katrina damaged Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, as well. Since Katrina hit people would be amazed at what type of depression lingers on all these states.

Because the media decided it would be more fun to play "poor blacks of New Orleans" instead of focus on the REAL devistation...

Mississippi sustained MASSIVE damage, yet barely anyone knows we exist. I read some answers before mine....Mardi Gras CAME FROM Mobile, AL..NOT New Orleans. Barbor and Bush did NOT see eye to eye, yet Barbor STILL got things done in this state! Mississippi is a great state; and as we rebuild, we can point our fingers west and laugh because they are still fighting a YEAR later!

GREAT QUESTION !
I'm from Louisiana, born & raised here.A little town about 65 miles west southwest of New Orleans.
Dont it just make you want to puke?
People are screaming,WE WEREN'T WARNED !
CNN,Fox,The Weather Channel, every local news station on the gulf coast from Florida to Texas was televising the storm track. It was no suprise to no one that katrina was coming.
People decided to stay and ride out the storm.People decided to live in a flood zone, nobody forced them to live there.

Sorry I got side tracked,it just pisses me off.
My wife wants to answer this one.

Hi I'm Pops wife. I lived on the coast of Mississippi most of my life. I was living there when Camille hit. You heard alot about Camille and the gulf Coast. I agee why all this mess about New Orleans? What about Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Long Beach, Gulfport and Biloxi Mississippi? These places look like a war zone. Has the Media forgot about the devastation to the Mississippi Gulf Coast? New Orleans had only water and wind damage. And YES alot of people lost their homes. But what about the people in MIssissippi? We or they are still a part of the United States!!!!!!!!!! I'm tired of hearing about New Orleans!! Tell me how the people in Mississippi are doing!!!! Try this on for size!! About a week after Katrina hit the east side of Louisiana Rite hit the east side of Louisiana, but you don't hear any thing about them!! WHY!!!!???????!!!!!

Mississippi is still here only now most of us are among the
ruins. Our beautiful, historic homes are gone. Just a few
survived. We lost at least 3 towns. Other towns were torn up.
We lost all of our casinos. Our schools were damaged and
one school in Gulfport still isn't opened. We finally buried two
people known only to GOD. We still have people missing. Our way of life was destroyed completely. Our lives were shattered.
Yet, in all the gloom, we found the strength to rise back up and
declare that KATRINA MAY HAVE KNOCKED US DOWN BUT
IT DIDN'T KNOCK US OUT! God bless the spirit of the people
from MS. And bless all of those who look our way with
compassion.

I think about that too sometimes. They only talk about New Orleans because it's a bigger city and mardi gras was there. So many things have happened there. I'm not saying New Orleans is better, the media just thinks it's more important.

Because the problems in New Orleans were on a much more widespread scale and also were shown more by the media. No one is denying what happened in Mississippi was bad, but New Orleans was devastated on a much larger scale.
