Actually, if you read the facts. The local and state government was who screwed up. Then when they actually gave permission for federal interference, FEMA screwed up.
It is so easy to blame Bush. But he had only one decision in the process to make, and he was miss-informed, on video tape I might add, about the situation.

And where was the mayor of New Orleans at? While the government may have been slow to react the mayor was already there and did nothing for those people. Each city/state is primarily responsible for having an emergency evacuation policy and implementing it. The lesson learned here is not what the government could have done better but that the mayor and state officials did nothing at all.

Bush had nothing to do with the buses there. It was the mayor of New Orleans, the Gov. also had a hand in the lack of planning. Bush found all this out AFTER!!

The fault lies with not only him, but with his advisors. The head of homeland security (god, that's a horrible title. It reminds me of "fatherland" which is what the Nazis called Germany during World war 2) told him hours before that Katrina was nothing to be worried about. He should have been more proactive in getting all of his facts, rather than just flying off the cuff.
Second, what it comes down to is, that if it doesn't have anything to do with "defending our freedom" in Iraq (somebody tell me what our freedom's doing halfway around the world), or continuing his personal vendetta against abortion and gay rights, he really doesn't care.
He can't get elected to more than two terms anyway, and his approval rating's in the dumps, so he's probably not trying to win any votes or support this late in the game.
It's funny, cuz FEMA took all the heat for the Katrina fiasco, but in reality, the fault lies first and foremost with the Federal Government. What we saw here was just a basic case of apathy. There weren't any of his rich buddies in trouble in New Orleans...so the Feds didn't care.
Really, if Dick Cheney had a house in New Orleans, it would've been a lot different.
Oh, and for those of you who said that Bush wasn't well informed, that's his OWN FAULT TOO. When you're the President of the United States, YOU should be doing all you can to help civilians (not just your buddies). I think somewhere, we forgot that government was created to serve the people.

Buses were already in New Orleans. They all got flooded after levee's broke.
Mayor Nagin didnt use them, that wasnt Bush's problem. Nagin has to this day never said a real honest reason why he didnt use them. Louisiana's governor was to blame also. She didnt call FEMA or the National Guard till the storm passed. Not before. Bush isnt responsible for this crap. Its Louisiana politioners that always lag the system.
Problem with the relief money is LOUISIANA POLITITIONS. Its not $1 billion in fraud. ITS MORE THAN THAT. The money isnt being spent on the right stuff (levee's, other preventative measures etc) its being spent for renovations for New Orleans.

First off, go to google and type in "failure." I am not a republican and I am in the NAVY. He is who I follow orders from in a sense and I respect him, as I have to for that reason. Never-the-less I don't respect him as a person. I will be glad when he leaves office. He as like most selfish people, he only thinks about himself. I've learned a lot being in the military and one thing I've learned how to do is find the shread of truth in the press. Example: during the war between Isrial and Hesbula, his popularity was at 49%. Once it stopped (by him I'm sure) his popularity went up to 51%. Like most politicians he only cares about his popularity.
I have watched "FAHRENHEIT 9/11" and I realize that the wording was screwed with to make it a better movie but, you cannot deny the video proof. When the man came up to tell Bush that we were under attack, he did in fact just sit there. That alone shows something doesn't it.
I truthfully think that somewhere deep inside the ****-pile, he did care about New Orleans. The only thing is; is that he couldn't make any money off of it. I could go on for hours but I'll stop.
Thank you for letting me say how I feel.
Sincerely,
Kevin

Every city needs their own evacuation plan. How can the President know every city's evacuation plan? That's rediculous. What you are saying is that if a massive earthquake struck my hometown, Reno, Bush better PERSONALLY put the evacuation and rescue plan into effect? I don't think so!! The city officials of New Orleans are to blame. Not a person a few hundred miles away! They are the ones that did nothing. Also, the news was reporting that Katrina was going to hit, and that it would be devastating. They suggested evacuations DAYS before it hit. If the people CHOSE not to leave, it's their own fault!

That responsibility should have been up to the local government.
And also, did you know that the National Guard is controlled by the State government.
There was a report that there is over 1 Billion in fraud over Katrina. With that much fraud going on, why should I care about New Orleans! Why doesn't New Orleans go after the locals stealing the relief money from them!

He's loathsome. He doesn't care about anything but making his friends richer and pleasing the Christian Right. From the start of his first term, he was rushing around, doing things like getting tax cuts for the SUPER RICH, and getting rid of any enviornmental protections, so that certain industries could make even more money. That's why they didn't pay any attention to all those reports of terrist plots, and that's why he looked so bored at that Katrina briefing (he was staring off into space & didn't ask a single question.) He cares nothing for human beings, he has no emphathy or kindness or compassion. He cares nothing for working class people, poor people, white or black. We'll be cleaning up his messes (the War in Iraq, the huge deficit, bad envoirnmental laws and our decreased influence in foreign affairs) for DECADES TO COME. If our country manages to exist into the near future, he will certainly go down in history as the worst president ever!

I believe deep down President Bush is a follower, not a leader. He takes direction from his advisers who are tied to big business. I believe he is a compassionate man but lacks a personal vision for fixing the many problems this country has. His reliance on others, who's focus is on profit, has stifled the recovery in New Orleans.
I do not blame Bush. I blame the people who voted for him.....twice.
