Doing a vaguely related follow-up question to one I answered (which person in history died the youngest but had the most impact on history- I answered Alexander the Great and Jesus was probably the other best/most interesting response I saw to the question) which inspired this question. Just thought this was kind of an interesting point to discuss/debate and if anybody had any thoughts, ideas, and/or sources of information on this. And yes, I think those that kill in the name of either of the two religions mentioned above have hi-jacked/misread/misrepresented/misunderstood the tenets of both faiths for political purposes.

of course you're right wizard- add the Inquisition and witch hunts to the "Christianity" section too.

Religion in general. Christianity in particular.

The answer is Number 7, Christianity.

Number 7 includes numbers 1 and 3.

Christianity is responsible for killing an estimateded 9 million people over the last 400 years all in the name of religion.

The correct answer is of course Jesus. More people have died in his name (though I agree with what you said, it isn't his fault because he preached peace--it is the followers who got it wrong) than anyone in history, including Hitler (incidentally, this means the 6 million Jews that died because of Hitler, but Hitler did use Jesus' name for that also so they did die in Jesus' name as well). But again, this wasn't Jesus' fault--just some of the followers (though not all of them, either).

I'd say most people died in the name of either their country or their God.
