Is it possible that I can be a good person? What is my penance for being white? I want to run free and wild like the other races. Can I take off these chains of shame?

Guilt is a word only used in the english laungage-Loose it . I,m sure you see that the world has alot of injustices and many are race related but to be a shamed of who you are is wrong. As long as you are a good person and you do what is right then you are not hurting other people. One cannot take on all the injustices that the world ever has had so don,t beat yourself up trying too. Yes you can feel sad for these bad thing but guilt -no. White people suffer injustice as well as american Indians as well as the jewish population ,as well as the black population, as well as the latino populatin,as well as the poor poulation, as well as the elderly population,as well as the musslim population--and so on.

I can certainly understand how you feel......I am older and was privileged (not by any merit of my own) to be born into a family who would definitely be the "haves"....the most wonderful part was they taught us that all things belong to God....just on loan for us to do the right things with it. I have felt guilt for just the way other races have been treated, not just in our country, but around the world. For all of you that say, "nonsense" or some smart remark, never forget "and the sins of the father will be carried on from generation to generation".....just a thought??? from the bible.

Your kidding, Right? Guilt for what..everybody in this country has the same opportunities to excel in fact some races have a leg up just because they are considered minorities. Be proud of what ever race you are and never be ashamed.

I'm interested at all the other answers and how they immediately started talking about slavery, when you didn't bring up slavery in your question or comments....assuming you are talking about slavery...

I wouldn't be ashamed. If you are refering to being ashamed because of the slavery issue, you might want to check into your family history. As for me my family is from Europe and wasn't even in America when slavery was around, so no one in my family had anything do do with the atrocities. You may take comfort in that if you do your research.

Don't ever be ashamed of what race you are. Feelings of superiority over another race is where you start getting into trouble. Otherwise have fun!!

And oh yeah by the way many slaves were brought over and sold by other Africans (blacks).

I have recently learned that whites are now the minority in the state I live in [CA], so now I can take off my shackles of shame and run free and wild!!

No hun, that's not normal. You're supposed to be proud of your race and culture. You didn't enslave the Africans and Native Americans, so you shouldn't feel guilty.

Only liberals believe that we should feel guilty about something we have no control over ( race) or that we should feel guilt about something done by other people, 300 years ago.

Have no shame.
Be proud.
For soon, YOU will be the minority.

Don't be shameful of slavery because for one, those people were sold. We simply bought.

Also, just about every race in every country had slaves. Read the bible.
