The problem is there is no free housing at my college at this time. This is supposed to be my 3rd year at the college, and I was on campus the other 2 years, so I could also have been garunteed housing for this year if I had only recontracted for this year. However, I did NOT recontract for this year because the college is in Maryland, and we were living in Maryland, so I thought maybe I could just not stay on campus this year and instead just take the bus to campus from our house in Maryland. However, this May my mother decided to move to Troy, NY to live with her friend, and I went with her, thinking that I would still be able to get housing on campus at the college in Maryland and go. But now they are saying there is no housing available, and classes started 8/28, and I am not there; I am still in Troy, NY!!!:(( Needless to say, I have GOT to be at the college ASAP before I miss too much that I can't catch up. But I have to have somewhere to stay. So what can I do? Please help!!!

I guess all you can do at this point is see if one of your friends who lives near the school will let you crash at her place for a while while you look for an apartment. Another option would be to stay at a hotel or motel, which I assume you can't afford. This is a tough situation. I hope it works out for you.

BTW, you should probably e-mail your professors and explain the situation. Some professors will just drop you from a class if you don't show up for the first couple of classes.

I'm sure it's different everywhere...but usually schools will give you refunds on your credit hours if you withdrawl from the class and the university within so many days after the year starts. I don't think it's a lot of time though-maybe a week. So, unless you can afford an apartment or want to live out of your car I would talk to someone about withdrawing for the semester.

Call the housing office back and ask if they can recommend places to look for housing near campus. Then talk to financial aid about adjusting your aid, since I assume that you can't afford to pay for this. You also need to contact your profs ASAP. Whether or not you can fix this in time for this semester, you need to tell them that you're not a total flake (though you really should have handled this before now). If you can't fix this in time for this semester, withdraw immediately and get yourself signed up for campus housing for next semester right now, then talk to your advisor about what you'll have to do to catch up.

Your other choice is to see if you can take courses or even transfer completely to a college in or near Troy. You may be able to register right away.

If you can't find any housing by the end of the week, request a leave of absence from your school. A similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago, but I got my act together in the end. Good Luck.

move in with some friends and sleep on the floor and give them beer money till you find a place, i rarely went to class anyway when i was in school, you can miss a lot of days. I guess you could live in your shagging wagon, if you have one, or in your ford escort if you dont.
