NOTE: The 3 Neon Tetras have been living beautifully in a 2 gallon tank filled with SPRING WATER for almost a year. I'd like to transfer them into my 30 gallon tank which uses only tap water and Aqua Safe. (I have 15 others in that large tank and they all get along fine; it's home to more Tetras and Platties as well.) Will the Neons be harmed? Will they breathe the same? Will they survive? Or...should I leave them in the Spring Water?

They will be OK as long as you "float" the fish to acclimate them. Put the fish in a watertight plastic bag (with water from the small tank and some air space of course). Place the sealed bag with fish into the 30 gal tank for about 20 minutes to bring to tank temperature. Add a cup or so of tank water to the bag and float another 20 minutes then carefully pour the fish and water from the bag to the aquarium. This procedure should be done when introducing any new fish to an aquarium.

They'll do fine if you introduce them to it slowly, so their temperature change is gradual, and if you have either dechlorinated the new water or let it stand for about 24 hours so the chlorine can evaporate, and then aerate it by either pouring it back & forth, or running a bubbler in it for some time. The other people's answers above are good, too.

If you are worried about the change in water, acclimate them slowly by adding a bit of your larger tanks' water into the smaller tank's water (20%) twice a day for two days until they have adjusted. This is the method I use for introducing freshwater mollies into my saltwater tank and it works well.

they should be fine as long as the tap water is treated and you should float them long enough and slowly accumulate some of the tank water into the old water with them into the bag until the amount of water in the bag had doubled
