I have had this problem with my power window for along time now. The window goes down fine with no problems, but when you go to put the window up the window moves up maybe 1/4 of an inch then stops. You must then wait about 3 mins to try again and usually it will go up another 1/4 of an inch. If you dont wait the 3-5 mins the window will do nothing when you press the button. So I decided to take the door apart. I unplugged the power cord to the window motor, and then removed the white piece that it was attached to. When I removed this the motor brushes' fell out and so did the springs. I managed to find them lol. I noticed that there was lots of gresee all over the brushes and the motor armature. I cleaned the gresee and inspected the brushes but they dont seemed to be very worn. Now The biggest problem I have now I finding a way to get the brushes to stay on the springs and get them pushes back enough to get them back in place (seems impossible). Could this be the cause of my problem?

You need to replace the motor with a new one. You can get one from Autozone or one of the other parts stores a lot cheaper than you might think. Even though the brushes don't seem to be worn, they are shot. The whole motor has had it! Either get a used motor from a salvage yard or a new one. You need to grease the rack where the motor shaft gear runs with a grease such as wheel bearing grease, and check to make sure the rollers and tracks are ok on the window, and where it runs up and down. This is a pretty difficult job to do. Drill out the pop rivits that hold the motor in with a 1/8" drill bit, or cut them out with a small grinder. The new motor will bolt in, but make sure you use lock washers on the screws or it will work loose in a week or so. It's important to get the bolts tight, and use the lock washers so it will stay where you put it. The difficulty of this job is about a 7 on a scale of 1-10, but take your time, and it should go just fine. You might consider doing both windows at the same time since the other one will not be far behind. You can use the other one to go by, and see how to reinstall the new one. If you must repair the old one, the trick to getting the brushes back in is to compress the bushing up in its hole, and you should see a place to insert a needle or paperclip to hold it in place while you put it back together. Remove the pin after its back in place or you will never get it together. Good Luck!

well it certainly doesnt help. if you wash your car with heavy detergents such as dish soap it will dry out the window felts causing friction between the felt and the glass.this makes the motor have to work harder and leads to pre mature wear.a quick fix for this is to go to auto parts store or wal mart and get some silicone spray. spray the black felts everywhere the glass makes contact.this will make the glass have streaks but will wash off.also if the window regulator (the part that the motor and glass are attatched to) is a cable type the cables tend to fray and get caught in the corners and motor.if this is the case you will usually hear cable making crunching noise.the regulator will have to be replaced.also if the window switch is the type located between the two front seats they are notoriously faulty and will probly need to be replaced.

NO What you did was wipe the anti corrosive grease off the connections providing a surface that can now corrode. You have now added to your problem as your original problem was corrosion on your switch which prevented a good contact between up and down or forward and reverse
