Has anyone had this problem with their Thermador range?

Question

OK, we have a 2-3 year old 6 burner Thernador range, dual fuel, professional, big honking expensive thing. The range is set in an island, and we had the backsplash that comes with the range installed (it rises about 4 inches above the range). There has been this buzzing noise, not loud, but irritating in a quiet kitchen that comes out of the back of the range. The appliance repair guy told us that it is supposed to make that noise and that our cabinets are too low. That they should be higher and that would muffle the noise. Does this make any sense at all? I would have someone else come to look at it, but I paid $60 to have this guy do nothing with the thing. Thanks in advance.

I don't have a Thermador, but I doubt if that noise is normal. Is there a transformer or solenoid valve back there? Has it always made this noise? Probably not. Something may have caused a recent change, perhaps moisture behind it. I would try another service tech for another opinion.

I work for my local gas co. & have seen several unusual problems with the Thermador product. They always seem to have some sort of electrical problem with them & it is always hard to find a reputable technician that can work on them. See if you can locate a repair person recommended by Thermador to ensure it is diagnosed properly. It does sound like a transfomer is humming and or vibrating against something behind the cabinet. Transformers should not make noise when they are operating properly. It may also be the motor for the exhaust which also should not be making noise. The height of the cabinets have nothing to do with noise. That technician's company should be recieving a call from you for a free trip and or refund. If he apparently doesn't know how to diagnose or repair the unit then you shouldn't be charged. When my company goes out for a diagnosis we don't charge unless we are to make repairs for the customer. Good luck.
